NITO is the largest organisation for engineers and technologists with bachelor, master og higher qualifications in Norway, and has more than 100,000 members. They also provide support for students within mentioned fields, with their own student section: NITO Students. There are 24 local teams spread across universities in Norway, supporting the NITO Students - and NITO Students NMBU is one of them. The way from member to head of the board at NMBU
I became a NITO Student member the day I started studying at NMBU, because of their interesting events and courses at campus + reasonable insurances. My interest and engagement grew along my academic journey at NMBU, and I started as one of NITOs
volunteers at NMBU in 2020. It was a great experience to get to know and learn from other engaged engineer- and technology students, as well as contributing to events and becoming more unionised.
In 2021 I decided that I was looking for bigger influence and more responsibility, so I volunteered as
deputy head of NMBUs board. From January 2021 until January 2022 I was responsible for budgeting, obtaining funds and accounting, as well as controlling materials in stock. I organised all stands throughout the semesters, and worked closely together with the leader of the board to ensure the local teams success. January 2022 I was ready to challenge myself with the
head role of the board. Luckily I was chosen for the role at the General Assembly, and a new year with overall responsibility for the local team's goals, events and courses was ahead. Through the years I've improved my understanding and experience with
effective communication, project management, organizational work and
delegation. I've also participated in regional as well as national meetings and events for NITO Students. In total I've contributed to the completion of about 80 different events and courses during my time in the board at NMBU, in addition to my contributions as volunteer.
